Gryf pojawił się już pod koniec XII wieku na pieczęciach władców Księstwa Pomorskiego (Gryfitów).

Flaga kaszubska ma kształt dwóch poziomych pasów – górny ma barwę czarną (barwa godła), dolny – żółtą (kolor żółty oddaje złotą barwę tarczy herbowej). Jeśli zaś na płachcie płótna występuje godło (czarny gryf w koronie), to owa płachta płótna ma kolor żółty.

Griffin appeared at the end of the twelfth century on the seals of the rulers of the Duchy of Pomerania (The Griffin Dynasty).

Kashubian flag has the shape of two horizontal rectangles – the top is black (colour of the emblem), the bottom is yellow (yellow colour reflects the golden escutcheon). However, if the emblem (crowned black griffin) is present, then the whole flag is yellow.
